Client’s needs

Before starting your plan, you’ll need as much information from your client as possible. The more you know, the more back-and-forth e-mails you’ll save.

  • Listen to their ideas - Usually, clients won’t tell you what they want, it’s up to you to ask them. They want reassurance that their brief will be fulfilled the way they visualized it, but they have a hard time explaining how they see their future website. The best way to overcome this problem is communication.
  • Client questionnaire - My favorite approach to find out about my client is by filling a form. List the most important questions that will help beginning your project. What’s the purpose of this website? Who’s the target audience? Who are your competitors? What actions do you want the visitors to take? Etc.. The form should not exceed 10 questions, because let’s be realistic, not all clients have the time nor the patience to fill out 20 or 30 fields. Make sure to send the client your form before you start drafting the proposal and not after. If you want to see an example, you can check out this form. For accessibility reasons and ease of use, I recommend you set up your form on Google Drive Forms. Now that the client has filled your form, you can send your proposal, and finalize your formal agreement on budget, scope of project, timeline, and ownership. After signing the agreement, it’s time to get to work.

8 STEPS OF WEB DESIGN

The time you post is just as important as what you post. What’s the point in sharing an amazing photo on Instagram if nobody sees it? Here are some tips to optimize your social media posting schedule.

The focus of the Website.

This is the first thing you want to define clearly before any other step is taken. You need to decide what the main purpose of the website is - what you want to focus on in terms of a subject.
It is important that you define this step as clearly as possible because a website’s focus has a major impact on the whole project; this is the ‘foundation’ of the site.

Specific Website Features.

This builds off of the first step, where now you look at actual features that you need to implement. For example:

  • A shopping cart for an online store
  • A password protected section of the website

Map out the Major Sections.

With the first two steps completed, you’re ready to actually start mapping out the major sections of the website; drawing out quick diagrams of the website is a useful way of doing this. A diagram can easily show the hierarchy of a website and how the various sections are related to each other.

Write out your Final Content.

This part is usually left to the end … then people wonder why they have to go back and rethink the structure of the site.
All websites are driven by content; it’s the content that makes a site effective and successful. As such, this part of the process is arguably the most important, so you need to pay attention to it.

Find a Style / Look for the Website.

At this stage of the process, you are ready to start looking at the visual aspect of the site – the design. You have a few options:
  • Hire a graphic designer / web designer
  • Come up with your own design – I’m assuming you have some artistic and design experience.
  • Buy yourself a website template and save time and money.

Build the Website

To give you the dictionary definition, Google AdWords is an online advertising service developed by Google to help marketers reach their customers instantly. When someone searches on Google for a particular term, say ‘travel packages’, Google would throw a list of searches for you. But if you look closely, you will notice that the top and the bottom results are generally ads.

  • Where your ads can appear
  • On Google Search and other search sites
